SPEDCONT with an investment project key to the region

SPEDCONT, a member company of the GEODIS Group, is planning a new investment project, that will soon give the SPEDCONT terminal the status of the largest inland intermodal terminal in Poland and one of the largest facilities of its kind in termsof handling capacity. Importantly, the new project plays a pivotal role for the development of the Łódź region since it will act as a catalyst for the local market and will create new jobs.

For many years now SPEDCONT has been consistently implementing its investment plans, which are a part of its long-term strategy. This year, the Company announces a project to develop the terminal and transshipment infrastructure, which will be the key to the development of the city of Łódź as well as the entire Łódź region.

SPEDCONT will purchase a plot of land, owned by the Łódź Special Economic Zone SA, with the total area of 5,5 ha and will build within its boundaries the Container Freight Station with a total area of approximately 1 ha along with the necessary roads and infrastructure and will expand the area of the intermodal terminal by approximately 3,5 ha. The total area of the terminal, once the planned investment project has been completed, will exceed 18 ha.

In the heart of Europe

The SPEDCONT terminal is located in the city of Łódź at the intersection of the Baltic – Adriatic and the North Sea – Baltic transport corridors, belonging to the TEN-T transport network, and the New Silk Road. The convenient location creates numerous opportunities for rendering various types of transport services. Currently, the terminal area is almost 13 ha, and the storage capacity is 7,500 TEU. After the expansion the SPEDCONT terminal will be the largest inland intermodal terminal in Poland in terms of storage capacity and one of the largest terminals in terms of handling capacity, estimated at 12 trains per day.
The SPEDCONT investment project is consistent with the Zone Development Plan in terms of business development in the Łódź region. It will enhance the competitive edge of the city of Łódź, as well as the entire region.

The entire Łódź region can benefit thanks to a significant improvement in operational and storage capacities, which will enable even faster, and more efficient handling exports of goods produced in the region and imports of intermediate products, creating new jobs, the possibility of consolidating and deconsolidating containers, building an intra-European network of connections and all that would be performed using environmentally friendly intermodal transport solutions.states Marcin Dobruchowski, CEO of SPEDCONT.

The implementation of the investment project will secure efficient transport services for international transport corridors crossing Poland and will also contribute to the reduction of environmental impact. It will have a positive impact on the reduction of unit transportation costs, the enhancement of the transportation service safety, as well as on the rational space management and the reduction of air emissions of pollutants.
The estimated minimum net value of the project will total approximately PLN 75 million. The expected start date for the investment project is Q3 2022. Meanwhile, the terminal expansion and the Container Freight Station construction are scheduled for 2023.
SPEDCONT has for years held a strong position in the market for intermodal transport services. The cargo flow through the Łódź terminal has been growing year by year. In 2021 alone, the company handled about a thousand trains with cargo from/to the Baltic ports.
